Achtung! Pozor! Danger!

Two days ago we got back from our little four-day bike trip in the border land of Germany and Czechia (and I still haven’t gotten past day one in my journal on CycleBlaze). Here are some pictures that I took for our challenge.

Pozor! Falling branches, and just think we were riding in the Bohemian and Bavarian Forests the whole time, so many branches.
Pozor! Construction vehicles exit!

I discovered that the Google Translator app will translate text that you photograph! So amazing and helpful in a country where I have hardly a clue to what anything means. Except pozor, I remembered that from a previous trip.

Pozor! Vlak – I figured out what vlak means without the translator app.
They meant business with this sign. It was in Czech, German and English! On his trip in September Janos cycled this route in the other direction and cycled on this trail. There was no sign at the other end (he maintained) and he came out alive. We decided it was better to take the detour., anyway.
German-Czech border: Not dangerous now, but 33 years ago this was the death strip.
There are three rows of concrete spikes that prevented any vehicle from crashing through the border. It is all very eerie.
Today there are many information boards in both German and Czech on the history of the border.
Today there are picnic tables here, but the watch tower remains as a reminder of a dark past.
A peaceful green border today, before the Iron Curtain fell inaccessible.

We are back home and the weather isn’t quite as warm and sunny as it was for our trip, but certainly nice enough to ride, and I’m sure much nicer than it will be in a month. I collected some more danger signs here at home.

Vorsicht! Electric fence! Vorsicht! Valuable pig stock. Do not enter, do not feed the pigs!
Timber storage yard of the municipality of Gauting, Dumping of garden waste, rubbish, rubble etc forbidden! Violations will be reported!
Path ends after a few meters. Protected field and wildlife sanctuary. Please do not enter!
From here you are on a golf course. Enter at your own risk!
Danger! They might be poisonous!

I'm a US born ex-pat, having lived most of my adult life in Munich, Germany. Cycling and photography are my favorite things.

You and Nancy and Rich are finding many interesting warning signs. I’ll need to keep my eyes peeled, but I don’t think we have too many around here. We’ll see.

Very interesting info about the border.
Falling tree branches are not good — Emily has mentioned that is true in Australia too — but they also have the dreaded Drop Bears! At least you escaped those!

    Looking forward to your journal.

Your post evokes such feelings in me. The reasons for border peril is something we seem to not remember nearly enough. I fear where our own country is headed at this time.

Your signs are quite prolific — just like around here! I will not post repeat types of signs, and so far have not had to ;’-).
