Astro Exhibit

A few years ago an old downtown Santa Rosa motel was refurbished and reopened as the “retro” Astro Motel, catering in particular to visiting bicyclists (of which we always have quite a few, especially around the time of the Grand Fondo).
I noticed in the newspaper this morning that in the wake of the death of a fairly well-known Santa Rosa sculptor, some of her work was being gently transported down from Sonoma Mountain to the Astro for a three-month exhibit in the motel courtyard. Kind of a weird place for showing her sculptures, it seemed to me, but—after phoning the office to make sure visitors are welcome—I pedaled downtown to have a look….
(Including special photo for Greg and his brother.)

Thanks for that Park Tool themed photo. I’ll forward it (and the link to your blog) to my bro. Those are some really cool sculptures. At least for now, the grounds of the Astro Motel are the Easter Island of Santa Rosa.
Easter Island! That’s exactly what I told the desk clerk at the motel. He responded, “Where’s Easter Island?”
Nice destination you took advantage of. Those sculptures are quite interesting. Also interesting is the motel doing such a good service for cyclists. ?.
Kind of unusual, isn’t it? I’ve never heard of another motel that markets itself to cyclists like the Astro.
Interesting sculptures and very creative.
I remember the Asto motel from one of your previous posts — very cool!
Goes without saying: Park Tools — when only the best will do, accept no substitutes.
I have a some Park Tools. If only my skills were as good as my tools….
