Berserk squirrels

Couldn’t get photos, but I was repeatedly attacked by berserk squirrels all along the Greenway today. Multiple other riders on the path warned me about the nasty little devils. Next time, I’m bringing my fearsome dog to deal with them. The squirrels, not the other riders.

They call me Old Grumble-Face. I have no idea why they do that....

Holy crap! The squirrels must have been plotting these ambush attacks for months as some kind of revenge against cyclists. Either that, or they all have rabies.

Yeah, I was thinking rabies, or maybe they were in rut. (Do squirrels have that?) Or maybe they all joined some crazy suicide cult, because in many cases they ran alongside my front wheel, then crossed right in front of me. They are vicious little beasts, not to be trifled with.

        Hi Bill.
Yes I think they do get in a rut. Watching the squirrels here usually they are just doing squirrel stuff, but once in a while they go into serious gyrations.
One time, what I assume was a male squirrel chased a female up a tree branch and a screaming conversation between them took place.

“Oh yes I am!” “Oh no you aren’t!” And on and on it went.
Not sure how it turned out, not being into squirrel porn. 😉

    That is frightening!
Had they come after me — I probably would have concluded they were thinking:

“Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don’t”

I’ve always been warned to stay out from under trees.

Named by teenage girls who lived next door at the time, the neighborhood used to have a semi-feral litter called the X-cats (Tex, Max, Rex, etc). They kept the squirrel population in check around here. Now those cats are all gone, and the squirrels seem to think they own the joint. Our dog has abandoned all efforts to deal with them. I can only shake my fist and shout when they start tap dancing on my roof.
