CLC 2018: #1 The Homestead

Monday, 12 March 2018

I rode 10 miles to get a hot chocolate at The Homestead in Salem. The Homestead is a block and a half from my home. My home in Salem is within a half mile of just about everything in Salem, within about 3 blocks from almost everything I need. We had a nice blizzard (8 inches of snow along with high winds) about a week ago, so there is a bit of snow around yet. The snow and wind had most schools in the area closed on Monday and Tuesday and many had a 2-hour late start on Wednesday. My one-block walk to work and home on Monday was pretty ugly. The snow has been melting away quickly as the sun is now high enough in the sky during the day. The streets in town are mostly clear of snow and ice. The roads I rode outside of town were clear. The temp when I rode today was around 35F and there was a bit of a NW wind.

Heading south from home. If I would have went north I would have been at The Homestead in about a block and a half.

5 miles east of town on 445th Avenue, about where I turned around.

The counter at The Homestead. I think this building was the post office many years ago.

    Gregg dearest,

Thanks so much for making it all the way to the Homestead. I trust the hot chocolate was just what you needed. Well done.

Hi Gregg. That looks like a pretty cold day to get the bike out. Hot chocolate was just the ticket at The Homestead. May Spring be with you. Tony

Great to see you joining in with your rides, Greg. I always love looking at South Dakota in 35F weather when it is 35C and roasting here. Emily
