“Creative?” Or “Bonkers?”

A couple of days ago, my name appeared on a famous bike touring blog. The author used the adjective “creative” to describe me. Seriously? Or was that a typographical error? Or a bit of facetiousness–like calling a tall guy “shorty?”

Today, the same author posted something here on Cycle365 in which he called me an “Absolutely Bonkers Character.” What’s up with that?

More importantly, which is it gonna be? CREATIVE or BONKERS? After reading the rest of today’s post, I think you will have to agree that it sure isn’t the former.

I went for a bike ride two days ago. It was another sunny and unusually warm day. I came up with a collection of A, B, C, D and E pictures. They weren’t very creative pictures, but I suppose they were good enough to satisfy the ABCDE requirements. Unfortunately, I didn’t have time to post them after the ride because I had to drive down to Red Wing, MN to attend a retirement party for a former colleague, and from there I had to drive down to Iowa so I could take my dad to his oncology appointment the next day.

Today (Saturday) I’m back home and I went for another bike ride. This time it was a cloudy, gloomy and cold day. I had even LESS creativity than I had on Thursday. I was only able to repeat the same A,B,C,D and E subjects as before. One small consolation is that they were different versions of those subjects.

So, I submit to you the Thursday photos & Saturday photos. Think of them as the “before & after” pictures.

Well, I’d say that chrome dome inspiration is Exhibit A, regardless of verdict. Creative? Bonkers? You be the judge.

The “chrome dome” pic was my fave too.

I’m not sure CREATIVE and BONKERS are mutually exclusive. Can’t you be Creatively Bonkers? And by ‘you’, I don’t mean you specifically of course. I mean, just in general. I’m feeling sad because it’s December 4th and I haven’t been on the bike yet this month. A combination of snow, slush, cold wind and appointments have interfered. Fingers crossed for tomorrow.

That is true Bob, most creative geniuses are often considered a bit, shall we say, ‘eccentric’?

Hope you get a good day soon for some cycling, weather is slowly but surely trending toward true winter here.

I almost wrote the same thing about creativity and craziness being not mutually exclusive, but that would have gone against the title of my post, which asked you to choose one or the other. So, I erased that, even though I know it is historically true.

I agree with Bob, it’s certainly not ‘either or’. Of course, not everyone who is bonkers is necessarily creative, but in my opinion anyone who is creative has to be a bit bonkers. Anyway, Greg, you never run out of ideas and your creativity never ceases to amaze.

You know, of course, that by saying such complimentary things you’re only encouraging me to aspire to even greater heights of bonkersness?

Let’s just say creative and leave it at that. But then — bonkers seems to work 🤔.

Thanks Nancy. Indeed, it seems to work for me.
