DUCK RESCUER

I arrived by bike early for Cindy’s small group ride, so did a little exploring around the immediate area of the ride start. Mama was attempting to lead her babies to the nearby pond that was quite securely fenced. She first got to a corner of the fence, found no opening and turned them around to try a different tack. I rode along that fence and saw there are no openings for her to get through to the pond.

Working hard to not stress her, I came back and slowly rode behind and next to the family, gently shepherding them to a gate opening that they had passed a ways behind them.

I got them safely and quietly to the opening and I think mama was happy.

Of course this had to be my photo for the day ;’-).

You performed an uncommonly kind and heroic act. And the picture is just too cute.

Very lucky duckies that you came along when you did!

That is so cute. The hospital Jim was in is next to a park and three days in a row traffic had to stop for the geese and their young ones to cross the toad. I was amazed they weren’t killed on the five-lane wide road, but I didn’t see any squashed ones.

Fences do make it hard for wildlife, well done.

What a great story, and what a great photo! I love it when we get a chance for a roadside rescue like this.
