Easter in Kodachrome

Last day of March and I thought I was getting a last chance for the Kodachrome challenge – but no, the challenge will continue through April.

All of a sudden we are having heavenly weather, sun and temperatures in the 60’s and 70’s. It feels so good.

Here are some Easter themed pictures from our ride yesterday, which due to the cycle-friendly weather took us a bit farther from home than we had been riding in the past months.

Festively decorating the village well or fountain is a custom in small towns or villages in parts of Bavaria during Easter. According to oral tradition, the first Easter fountain was decorated in 1908 somewhere near Nuremberg. The custom is very common in Franconia where we have cycled a few times around Easter and could admire the beautifully decorated fountains. However, I had never before seen this style of Easter decoration here where we are. This was a first and not quite as elaborate as in the villages in Franconia but still lovely.

I'm a US born ex-pat, having lived most of my adult life in Munich, Germany. Cycling and photography are my favorite things.

Gotta say, John the Baptist is looking a little inappropriate there. Even the bunnies seem to be shocked.

The Greg’s Favorite Suzanne Picture for the month of March will be announced soon. Just waiting for any last minute entries.

Yes, St. John does seem to be very scantily clothed…
The final collection of pictures is yet to come.

When I was a kid, Easter was a really big deal, but seems hardly celebrated by my friends and family today. I love the custom of decorating the towns and fountains. Certainly perks up the villages where neutral tones are the norm. As for weather, we were having some nice days. Here when it is warm, there is also rain. There is supposed to be a hard freeze tonight in my area. Hopefully, some of the lovely blooming flowers and blossoms on trees will survive it. As always, Suzanne, nice pictures.

Well, you got in the Kodachrome challenge AND the Holiday Challenge!! Twofer.

I love the the towns decorate with colorful Easter decor. Makes one feel really like Spring. We are having gorgeous weather today at 60+ degrees. It won’t last as the drop happens this weekend back to the 40s for a few days. But we take what we can get and be happy with that???.

I’m not even gonna try my EggMazing decorating kit now . . . . Faberge eggs were always out of the question! 😉
Nice photos and very imaginative — as to St. John I’m guessing he is in that attire as to not to get soaked as he performs the ceremony in the fountain?
