Fathers Day: I’ve been pedaling on the railroad

The Skunk Train folks built a fleet of pedal-powered (with electric assist) “railbikes” for tourist excursions on the Skunk line. It always seemed to me that it might be interesting to try those railbikes. For Father’s Day this year, I made reservations for myself and my somewhat skeptical ace support crew. Our friends Marsha and Bud (who has accompanied me on a few bike rides chronicled here in years past) agreed to join us, although they might have been even more skeptical about my cockamamie idea….

It looks like a huge step up to that Garceau. Wouldn’t want to stumble forward into the toilet.
When I saw your featured photo, I was worried that you and the Ace Support Crew were powering that huge train by yourselves. Luckily, I went to Bill Bikes and found there were a lot of other pedalers. In Minnesota, many people pedal boats on lakes instead of trains on rails. I’ve done it and it’s fun.

Sure, on the two or three days each year when the lakes are ice-free. Just kidding. You know I like Minnesota.
That looks like a fun adventure for Father’s Day Bill! If ever I go through Ft. Bragg again I will try to find that and maybe have a go at it! Nice photos for sure.
The Skunk Train folks also offer a much longer and more adventurous railbike expedition. It starts and ends on the inland side of the blocked tunnels, rather than the coastal side at Ft Bragg. The electric-assist makes it easy, and their new railbikes feature e-assist for both pilot and co-pilot.
Looks like tons of fun and beautiful scenery as well.
I’ll bet everyone was happy you ‘railroaded’ them into going.
You might, might, I say, refer to one of those photos for July’s challenge 🙂
Hmm. Sounds like foreshadowing to me.
