First Snow

I had commented in one of Greg’s posts a few days ago that I loved getting some early snow before Halloween, but that it rarely happened here. Well, 2020 has spoken one more time to tell us that it’s an unusual year. During the height of the snowfall this morning, we had about 3 inches covering the ground, and it looked like an honest to gosh winter snowstorm was brewing.
I headed out for a short ride after lunch, covering about 6 miles, just to get myself into the winter cycling mindset. As you can see from the photo, considerable melting had already happened.

When I received the email notification from cycle365 with the subject line “First Snow,” I said to myself, “I bet I know who and where.” Looks like I was right. Time to don those wool cycling long johns with trapdoor! 😉
You know, the standard joke is that those old Vermont farmers put the long johns on beginning of November, and they stay on ’til end of May. 🙂
Nice! Our 8″ of snow is almost gone now and by tomorrow when the temps get into the 50’s, that will will be the end of it. For now. And I’m not complaining.
I’m sure this won’t stick around here either. Of course, it got down to the teens last night, so I’m waiting for the black ice to melt before I head out today.
Well, snow looks nice anyway. And if it melts fast, all the better!
It was very pretty. Even prettier last night as the sky cleared and that almost full moon shown down on the remaining snow.
