Fonts Point, another way

You’ll of course remember Old Grumbleface’s excellent adventure nearly two years ago, when he carried his Ogre up four miles of sand to Fonts Point. It’s definitely well worth the effort to get thee to Fonts Point, with its stupefying views of the Borrego Badlands. But by bicycle?
Rereading his post, we realized we had to get out there ourselves. We weren’t too sure of the value in carrying our bikes out there with us though, and decided to just walk it instead. Thanks to our new, improved Cycle365 posting rules, we can share our experience with you here.
Read them both and share your thoughts. Which way would you choose?

I just looked at Old Grumbleface’s impressive post and it looks…fun, daunting, and possible with my LHT and 2.1 tires. But I think I’d probably walk it instead.
Wow! What a view! I don’t own a bike that would do it and not even sure my feet would, but looks like a wonderful place.
It’s stunning alright. It was a challenge walking it, but I’m glad we did rather than just drive up like nearly everyone does. It sets your mind in a frame to fully appreciate it when you finally arrive; as opposed to one poor woman who walked up to the edge, looked out for a minute, and turned back disappointed. “I thought it would be more exciting”.
I read them both and I decided hiking and biking the route look equally exciting. I would probably choose to ride my bike though. It would probably take me double the two hours it took Old Grumbleface to get up there, but I wouldn’t mention that part in my Cycle365 post.
Thanks for the great photos – I couldn’t ride or hike it.
