In Međimurje

I can’t believe it’s the end of the month already. I have to say that the August challenge fell off the mental map for the last few weeks while we were transitioning to Croatia, but I’ll try to do better next month. Surely we’ll see an arch or two along the way here.
i wasn’t thinking about the challenge as we were riding today, either. Instead, I was concentrating on my oxygen intake as we wheezed up steep hills and were knocked breathless by one gorgeous view after another in western Međimurje, the northernmost county in Croatia. If I had, I’d have propped up the Bike Friday next to this well with it’s radiating wheel. I’m not sure I’d accept this entry without a bike in it, but who am I to judge?

We’ll talk about whether that counts later…after I post my picture of something I’ve yet to bike by that fits the subject from months ago that I recently noticed. I’m saving it for a day you have had to climb a REALLY big hill, so you’ll be too tired to complain. 😉
It’s not me, actually. I’m the good cop, Rocky is the stickler. And the days when I willingly climb a REALLY big hill seem to be winding down, I’m afraid. For decades we’ve talked about getting in our mountains when we were young and saving the flat lands for later. We seem to be edging into that time.
Janos often asks me why I ruin good pictures by insisting that my bike has to be included. I’d say for the sake of a good photo we can occasionally dispense with the bicycle. What do the cops have to say?
The cops? That sounds so American. I like to think of ourselves as something more peaceful, like curators. But to the point: bikes are not required in ALL photos – only in some photo. One will do, and preferably one this illustrates the challenge. This month is a gimme, really. Arches are such a natural framing object.
You said you’re a good cop, and I’m taking your word for it.
Yes, I saw that afterwards myself. I was hoping you wouldn’t notice, but not much seems to get past you.
