Everybody knows the major holidays of each month. Many of us even know some of the minor holidays. Aside from those holidays, most of us have been surprised to see some more obscure celebrations–things like “National Bike to Work Day,” or “National Beer Appreciation Week,” or “National Love Your Dog Month.”

Out of curiosity, I decided to find out what kind of celebrations are coming up in June. I was flabbergasted, to say the least. Here is what I’m referring to:

That’s just the month-long celebrations. There are also week-long celebrations in June:

Wow! And that doesn’t even include the DAILY celebrations. I’m not going to post pictures of all of those, but you can look at them yourself by clicking on this link: June 2022 Official, Fun, Crazy and Bizarre Holidays ( (I really should have just posted links to the month and week holidays too.)

So, your challenge for June is to pick out a few of those national holidays and incorporate them into your bike rides in whatever way you want. With all those options, you might think it would be the easiest challenge ever, but don’t be too sure. Some of the options will be pretty easy, for sure, but some of them will only relate to one or two of us. Some of them will relate to none of us.

And there is another rule: You can only post about a holiday that is currently in effect. That means the month-long holidays can be celebrated throughout all of June, but the weekly and daily challenges can only be celebrated within the appropriate time periods. Therefore, as you peruse the various lists, you might have to plan ahead a little bit.

I don’t know what you will think of this challenge, but I look forward to seeing what you come up with. If you don’t like it, I’m sorry, but you’ll have to abide by it anyway. The good news is that my one-year term as Czar of the Challenge ends this month. I will formally nominate my heir-apparent soon.

P.S. I realize the celebrations listed above are U.S. holidays, but I’m pretty sure the folks from all the other Cycle365 countries will be able to find SOMETHING in there that can apply to their monthly, weekly and daily lives. If not, feel free to post about National Australian Holidays, or National German Holidays, or National French Holidays, or whatever national holiday you want.

Hi. My name is Greg and I ride my bike a lot. That is to say, I ride my bike almost every day. I go on long rides and short rides. Sunny rides, cloudy rides, and rainy rides. I like commuting, errand-running, day-tripping, overnighting, and touring on my bike. I ride on city streets, highways, gravel, single track, and snow with equal enthusiasm. Sometimes I ride fast and sometimes I ride slow. I try to keep my feet on the pedals at stop lights and I do not dismount when I hop up on a curb. I have a roadie bike, a mountain bike and a touring bike. I try to accept any challenge a bike ride can throw at me without complaint. But I don't like bugs.

Wow… so much to celebrate, I’m sure you’ll be into the National Insect Week Greg, alas and thankfully I’m in the wrong hemisphere to celebrate World Naked Bike Ride Month.

Lol, what is a Right of Way Professional? I am all over the Waste and Recycling Workers week – that’s been my job since 2019 🙂

Might have trouble finding a Georgia blueberry, and it does make me wonder, when is the southern hemisphere naked bike ride month. Because I can tell you, there are parts of the year, where sunburn happens very quickly and the flies are so horrible, you probably wouldn’t want to expose certain bits and have flies all over them. I would much rather do a nudie ride in June than January!
