We were up for a little camping trip as the weather promised to be dry, in the 40s, and some sun possibilities. Though I thought I might get 2 days of riding, I ended up with but one for a variety of reasons. But it was a good one and I will not complain as we had a grand two night stay at the State Park practically to ourselves!

Birch Bay is a small resort town on, well Birch Bay. It is just northwest of Bellingham and a true delight I think. Riding along the bay at this time of year is a quiet ride with little to no traffic as we make our way to Semiahmoo Marina at the end of a two mile spit — appropriately named Semiahmoo Spit ;-). This being the halfway point we were able to find a hot chocolate for a warm up in the chilly air.

Looks like a great loop ride!

Gee, you folks over there have got to be very smart to: A) Pronounce those names, B) and more importantly, know how to spell them!! And , no, I am not kidding!

Semiahmoo isn’t bad as it is pronounced as it looks — semi AH moo. Sequim is weird as it is said “skwim”.. Puyallup is a mouthful and and there are others. You become accustomed to all the Indian names once you live here for a while, but you are right that it is a learning curve.

On a different note, we have a town not far from where we are camping named “Concrete” because it was once a concrete factory there. When new people move in you often will hear them call it “Cement”.

The comment above goes for you guys too Suzanne!
I would be totally hopeless on both counts.

It really is a nice place and has maintained its non-commercialized town and somewhat laid back atmosphere. Not a high profile place at all and very comfortable to be here.
