June Challenge: It was a tree

My first tree of the month: I saw this photogenic tree motif on our ride through Munich’s English Garden. We are taking advantage of the beautiful weather by cycling to a beer garden for our picnic lunch as often as possible. Our ride to the Aumeister Biergarten at the northern end of the park is 16 km round trip – a bit of exercise before and after our midday meal.

That was a huge tree!
Imagine all the history that has flowed past and around it during its lifetime.
Yes, it must have been a grand tree! Some other huge ones are still standing, but I’ll have to go out with my wide angle lens to capture them.
I thought it was a large rock at first. Looks Almost a square trunk….do you know the type of tree? If that were here in Northern California all the green around would be poison oak. Once while working at Pt Lobos I came upon a French man sitting right in the PO as we call it. I tried to explain it was poison oak he said not to worry he wouldn’t eat it ….I explained that wasn’t the issue as he was on a bicycle traveling down the coast and had on bike shorts. I sure hope he was one of the lucky ones that doesn’t react to it or I’m sure his next few days on the bike were not fine.
Hi Janet,
No, I don’t know what kind of tree it is. And fortunately we don’t have poison oak over here. Where I grew up in New Jersey, the woods were full of poison ivy and some poison oak. I recognize it when I see it!
Wow – I love it. Have you ever read ‘Das geheime Leben der Baume’ by Peter Wohlleben? I’m reading the English translation at the moment (right in sync with this month’s challenge), and I am really enjoying it. It will change how you look at trees and forests.
Thanks! Yes, I have read “Das Geheime Leben der Bäume”! And it does change how you see trees.
