CLC2018, Ride 5: Mecca

In 2013 I pedaled a short tour through Joshua Tree National Park. In 2016 I pedaled a short tour around the Salton Sea. In both cases, I nearly pedaled between the Cottonwood Visitor Center at J-Tree and the town of Mecca. Today, on the way back from the Phoenix area with a hike in Joshua Tree on the agenda for tomorrow, my ace support crew dropped me and the Ogre at the visitor center. While she explored the park and hiked up Mastodon Peak, I climbed aboard the Ogre and pedaled down to Mecca. That finally connected my 2013 and 2016 tours.

They call me Old Grumble-Face. I have no idea why they do that....

The country you are riding through looks spectacular. I do like countryside that isn’t green!

Gorgeous ride, Bill. I loved the conglomerate rocks with the pockets. Looks like it was a gorgeous day to be there. So many places to go, so many places to ride. My ‘ride’ list is about six times longer than my expected lifespan. I hope your Ace Support Crew’s hike was as fun as your ride looked. Em

Hiking was great. Gotta get back for some overnight desert backpacking. Not much green here, Tony! We needed your geology expertise, Em, for some of the spectacular terrain covered in hiking and biking. Hiking to Lost Palms Oasis in J-Tree, the landscape was so spectacular that I could barely go two steps without pulling out my camera.
