For many years I did my FROTY (First Ride Of The Year) ride on the first DAY of the year. In fact, it became a tradition with the group of women cyclists I started way back. This year it was not to happen and the tradition got broken. Weather on the first day of this year would not allow the ride to happen on the First Day Of The Year, and in fact, did not allow it to happen in the first WEEK of this year. I needed to adapt.

Today, January 8, would be my FROTY for 2022. However, I did do one — a FROTY! After 17 (SEVENTEEN!!!) days of not riding, I was dipping into withdrawal symptoms in a big way. Susan was so ready for me to get to ride, as anxious as I was to do so! Today I just wanted to ride around, do a ‘whatever’ ride and have no real agenda. It would be short and I did not want to stop much for photos or any other reason. Just me and my bike rolling through the neighborhood.

Two stops for photos — this one shows that though the weather has warmed to a balmy 36 degrees and we have had some rain, there are remnants of that snow…

One more stop as I was passing by what I call a THicket…

In that THicket were THorns ;’-).

You may notice that this is not MY bike in the photos. We delivered our Bike Fridays to their birthplace in Eugene Oregon for a total overhaul. They will not be ready for near two weeks, and for a nominal rental fee ($75) I got this eAssist for those two weeks.

(An aside here: When I went to post this, I was unable to log onto the site from the log page. I went to “Home” and tried there and got on. I don’t know if something is going on again, for if this is a one time thing. It also meant that I could not comment on any of your posts. Seems there have been a lot going on while I have been gone ;’-)).

Great you got your FROTY in finally — great photos too.
Been no riding days here either, just two so far, and one of those I was very glad to get home and warm.

Thin glaze of ice out there right now after freezing drizzle.

When I first get to 365, Im not logged in either, but if I click HOME twice, or maybe more sometimes, it will say “Howdy Rich” — and then Im in.

I know all about that icy glaze that covers the road!! We have reached high 30s into 40 so our ice is basically gone for now. May come back though. Stay safe out there.

Thanks for the tip about logging in through the Home button. I will try that next time.

Glad you finally got your FROTY! Sometimes rides have to be short, more or less symbolic. And good thing you were able to get a rental bike for the two weeks your bike is in Eugene. Now you just need the weather to ride it!

I may be being overly optimistic, but it just might be that I can get in 4 rides this week!! At least I shall try for that and no matter for distance — you are right about it simply being symbolic sometimes ;’-0.

According to the national news, western WA has been getting some serious rain. Glad to see that it might be clearing out for a bit. I recognize those blackberry thorns in your thicket picture. They seem to be everywhere in the greater Seattle metro.

I’m about to post today’s chimney ride. I hope you don’t mind if I offer a couple variations on your “FROTY” acronym.

Of course I don’t mind you using a similar, or same, acronym.
