My Trip To Stanley

Yesterday I wrote about the dumbest thing I’ve ever done. I also wrote about my plan to drive to MY Town and back to resolve the problem, which would have been the second dumbest thing I’ve ever done. It’s all moot now, because — HALLELUJA! — I found the key to my bike lock this morning. To celebrate, I rode my bike to the charming town of Stanley, Iowa.

The road to Stanley

Entering the charming little burg

Stanley’s quaint downtown area

At first glance, this cute little picnic shelter looked like a nice place to sit down and have a drink of water.

But then I changed my mind about that

Stanley’s haunted house

Tourists flock to see Stanley’s gigantic tin man.

People die in Stanley too.

The road away from Stanley is as scenic as the road into Stanley.

Thank you. I think I will.

Hi. My name is Greg and I ride my bike a lot. That is to say, I ride my bike almost every day. I go on long rides and short rides. Sunny rides, cloudy rides, and rainy rides. I like commuting, errand-running, day-tripping, overnighting, and touring on my bike. I ride on city streets, highways, gravel, single track, and snow with equal enthusiasm. Sometimes I ride fast and sometimes I ride slow. I try to keep my feet on the pedals at stop lights and I do not dismount when I hop up on a curb. I have a roadie bike, a mountain bike and a touring bike. I try to accept any challenge a bike ride can throw at me without complaint. But I don't like bugs.

Stanley Iowa, though with beautiful sky, seems a burg one should put on their map and bypass.

    Super cool!
We have a few ‘Stanley’s’ around here, once a vibrant center, and now a mere ghost of their past.
Its sad. But, they live on! 🙂

Ok. Pope of the Great Outdoors — here is a question for you:
Somewhere in the code of the Universe does it demand that picnic tables and park benches be covered in bird poo? It is disgusting and why I have a disdain for birds equaling yours for bugs.

Even though I’ve been pooped on twice by birds in my lifetime (once while cycling), those creatures are still well below bugs on my Animal Hate Scale. Insects have bitten and stung me THOUSANDS of times.
