Not on one, but at least talking about bicycles

Yesterday, I drove to Elizabethtown, KY to order a tombstone for Jim. Whenever we went near that town, we’d drive past the place we had our Bike Fridays worked on. The mechanic was a BF dealer and was the best, but the last time we saw him, he was closing up shop and moving to Pittsburgh. Each time it looked like the bike shop had moved out, but nobody had moved in.

I arrived about 45 minutes before my appointment at the monument place, so went to see what was going on in the old bike shop building. There were people working on the building, but they certainly weren’t decking out a bike shop. It still said Bull Moose Bicycle Shop in big letters on the top of the front, but I thought someone hadn’t painted over it yet.

I spoke to a man going to his truck, but all I got out of my mouth was, “I see it says Bull Moose Bicycle Shop…” He said there was still a bike shop in the back of the building and he thought Adam was there. He wasn’t and I was disappointed, but told the man I’d stop by after my appointment before returning to Louisville..

Well, he wasn’t there the second time either, so I asked the man if I could leave him a note. Later on, after I was home, Adam called. I was soooo excited to hear that he was back in town and open for business when he wasn’t on his other job.

In addition to at least 50 other topics…as he said, we were catching up, we talked about seeing if we could make some changes and get Jim’s BF to fit me and if so, converting it to an E-bike eventually. He said he’s done many conversions. I’m not sure it can be adjusted enough, so will seek that information first. I’m hanging tight with just Violette until at least September or October. I won’t be making any changes to the old gal either way though. Having Adam back was the best news I’ve had in a long time!

For now, loaded touring isn’t possible due to my husband's health issues. I’m used to cycling by myself, but I can't go off and leave him. Cycle 365 has motivated me to not give up riding just because I don't have time to go as far or do awesome rides like I did in the past.

And hopefully it includes bicycling! Been worried about you and Germany. I have a feeling those floods are washing away some of the paths I’ve cycled on. I know I went south from Cologne twice, once on each side of the river. Sickening to see the damage to the quaint little villages. Hope your area is dry. I will check on my friends from Koblenz and from Frankfort.

Great you got your bicycle guy back!
Hope you can get Jim’s bicycle fitted for you — looking forward to when you get back to some riding.

Won’t know until I have him compare the two bikes. Mine isn’t so much shorter, but the frame is longer. Perhaps changing the handlebars to what I’m used to (the ones that turn down) will compensate some. His are straight. I won’t be checking that out until September or should say when the IRS finally lets me know what they are doing with our taxes from last year.

That is some good news, and very special if you can get Jim’s bike to fit. I am sad to hear that he has passed away, and I send you all of my condolences. You must feel so many different emotions – a million in one day perhaps. Sending all my best.

Thank you, Em. I’m shocked at how difficult it has been, but know going forward is the only possibility. I need to catch up on this site. Know people were concerned when you hadn’t posted in awhile. Hope everything is going well for you.

Great story, Laura. I remember how sad I was when it looked like my local bike shop was going to be closing, except my story doesn’t have a happy ending. The shop really did close and it never came back.

Good luck on the bike conversion.

What a delightful thing to have happen for you. A star to shine in you current dark sky perhaps. Here’s to many good and happy miles on a new eBike. I personally think you will love it. Does Jim’s bike have a name?

Thanks for letting us know about your good day ;’-).
