Petaluma – Novato

I’m still sticking close to home, but at least I wandered into another county today.

I’ve done the ride from Petaluma to Novato several times. Compared to the old death traps along the route, it’s much easier now that all the (relatively) new cycling infrastructure is complete. The expedition offers a good variety of riding. Part of the route is on quiet rural roads, part on paved bike paths, and part on hardpack fire roads.

They call me Old Grumble-Face. I have no idea why they do that....

That looked like a really nice ride, shame about the return headwind. I don’t see mirrors on roads too often over in my neck of the woods, but always think of you when I do.

Judging by the “Welcome to Petaluma” sign, I assume there must be a lot of chickens there.

Nice acrobatic pose at the end.

Interesting observation there Mr G. So, I had to look it up.

Kind of a long, but interesting, read about Petaluma and Two Rock — places Bill has acquainted us with.

I normally confine my reading to books with lots of pictures and large print — normally found on the lower floors of a library. 😉

Yep, as Rich noted, at one time Petaluma was known as the Egg Capital of the World. Still a few poultry operations, but kind of a running joke these days. I should probably note that last week I was up in Siskiyou helping my son and his wife build a hen house on their new ranch. Their chickens will have a spectacular view of Mt Shasta!

Great photos! Looks like a place we should check out sometime although I wouldn’t like the winds.
