When I lived in Illinois, no way could I work on the bike in January with the garage door open. I reckon it’s the same in Vermont. One of my brothers-in-law in Blue Mound Township has a huge attached garage (more like what the locals call a “machine shed”) which is heated and has drains in the cement floor. He likes to wash his trucks indoors in the winter. Also very comfy for bicycle maintenance. But I would hate to have pay the heating bill!
When I was young and single in Bloomington-Normal, I stored and maintained bikes in the kitchen of the house I rented, and kept a bike on a trainer in the living room at all times. Maybe that’s why I had so little luck getting young ladies to visit me? 😉
My rainy day maintenance normally means taking it to the shop for an overdue overhaul. Then they give me the lecture about being better at maintaining my bike. I do need to do at least a little more after rainy/gunky rides, and keep telling myself to do that!
Great garage photo – as Rich points out.
Now you’re making me feel guilty that I’m not out in the garage doing the same.

It’s raining here, too, so if you would like to pop by and have a look at my bike 🙂
