The pictorial guide to Paul Simon’s Kodachrome (as covered by the Muppets)

It was a long day at work. A very long day. Most of them are that way now. I dread logging in each morning. So after a day of meeting after meeting, and phone calls in between, while planning logistics, talking to people about data extraction, deciphering legalese and organisational liability, and negotiating procurement documents… I needed to get out of the house/office!

I decided I would ride around town and look for pictures that went with Paul Simon’s song “Kodachrome”. It was a creative outlet after a crappy day and would ensure that I would ride slow and gentle since my energy is low after all the mental expenditure through the day.

Now, of course, my favourite cover of Kodachrome is by the Muppets. You should play this while you look through the post.

And so here is your pictorial guide to Kodachrome (drum roll, please).

When I think back
On all the crap I learned in high school

It’s a wonder
I can think at all
And though my lack of education
Hasn’t hurt me none
I can read the writing on the wall

Kodachrome
They give us those nice bright colors

They give us the greens of summers

Makes you think all the world’s a sunny day, oh yeah

I got a Nikon camera
I love to take a photograph
So mama, don’t take my Kodachrome away

If you took all the girls I knew
When I was single

And brought ’em all together for one night
I know they’d never match
My sweet imagination
Everything looks worse in black and white

Kodachrome
They give us those nice bright colors
They give us the greens of summers
Makes you think all the world’s a sunny day, oh yeah
I got a Nikon camera
I love to take a photograph
So…

And while we are here and I’ve got the time, I would like to submit these photos for Blue, Indigo and Violet (Indigo is more blue than purple apparently, but all three shades were in these murals). I pronounce ROYGBIV complete, but reserve the right to continue to find good examples throughout the month.

Nerdy chick in Australia who loves to ride and is accompanied by the crew: 'The Commander' Verne and the 'Mental Health Specialist' Kermit.

Wow, all that drudgery at work certainly hasn’t squelched your creativity!

Holey Moley! Or holy moly, You are such a success at not only finding ROYGBIV, but finding them all together in a mural! Good job Em. Seems that even with busy work time you have carved out some good riding time for yourself (an for us).

Great, creative post! Those murals are amazing, and great paired with those Magnificent Muppets.

Excellent “Kodachrome” adaptation. That’s all I can say.

When I first saw ROY G BIV I had to look up what it meant.
Great photos and murals — the photo of Verne and Kermit and all the GREEN sure looks good right now!

To find the greens of summer here, you have to go to a park with irrigated grass and deciduous trees! Nothing else is very green in summer here. Green is more a winter thing.

The greens are coming for you. I know you will be posting a crocus shot any day now. And I know you are getting more daylight to bring on those greens, because the loss of daylight here is quite noticeable now!

A very clever post, well done. Love the lyrics of that song especially the first two sentences, so true.
