What’s That? Blue Sky?

The sun rose at 7:45 a.m. to reveal a clear blue sky. Plus, the air temperature was already 33-degrees ABOVE zero with a predicted high of 37-degrees. WEIRD!

I doubt the spring-like thaw will completely take care of MY Town’s ice problem, but it should put a little dent in it. Either way, I was anxious to take advantage of the new weather development with a bike ride.

So that’s exactly what I did, and it was my longest ride of the year so far. Before anybody gets too impressed with my wintertime fortitude, I should state that today’s longest ride of the year was only about 14 miles.

Now, check out the results of my balmy, super-sunny, super-fun, blue-sky bike ride.

This photo isn’t really about the huge grain mill–it’s really about that BLUE SKY.
An elderly tree died sometime in the last few days and fell over the frozen Vermillion River.
Further downriver, I took this shot from a bridge.
Even further downriver, I took this shot of the bike-pedestrian bridge over the gorge. Several times in the past, I’ve shown pictures from the surface of that bridge.
They’re still cleaning up some of the sidewalks ten days after the last ice/snow storm.

The sun is indeed doing its work. It’s melting the ice, but it’s also creating another wintertime nuisance. Namely, SLUSH.

Hi. My name is Greg and I ride my bike a lot. That is to say, I ride my bike almost every day. I go on long rides and short rides. Sunny rides, cloudy rides, and rainy rides. I like commuting, errand-running, day-tripping, overnighting, and touring on my bike. I ride on city streets, highways, gravel, single track, and snow with equal enthusiasm. Sometimes I ride fast and sometimes I ride slow. I try to keep my feet on the pedals at stop lights and I do not dismount when I hop up on a curb. I have a roadie bike, a mountain bike and a touring bike. I try to accept any challenge a bike ride can throw at me without complaint. But I don't like bugs.

    Nice blue sky!
Warmed up some here too, but at a price — that being WIND! 🙁

    2.88 for unleaded? Wow

The minnow sign would be amusing to the uninitiated. 🙂

True, some folks might think the sign is a statement regarding the quality of the minnows.

    I love your sloth waterfall.

$2.88 a gallon! The best we find here is about 3.89 and that is if we pass by a Reservation on our way somewhere — which is not close by.

Yes, MY town has gas prices that are at least 30-cents lower than anyplace else in the Twin Cities. It’s the result of a gas war that’s been going on ever since a big Kwik Trip station opened up. Kwik Trip is the instigator and, of course, all the other gas stations have to meet their pricing or lose business. The prices are great, but I know it’s only temporary.

One thing I’ve always been shocked by are the gas prices in your state. They must be among the highest in the country. When driving to visit The Feeshko’s relatives, I generally make sure I fill up in Idaho before continuing on to Spokane.

That is definitely a deep BLUE sky. And it still looks pretty icy. Yep, I think my longest ride of the year is right in the same ballpark, maybe 13 miles. Oh, sorry about your Vikings. (Well as a Giants fan, not actually TOO sorry, but still, sorry).

Ouch, Bob, did you really have to remind me of that debacle? It’s okay though, Despite their record, I don’t know a single Vikings fan who really believed this team would go very far in the playoffs. The Vikes were easily the luckiest team on earth during the regular season. Good luck to the Giants the rest of the way.

It was a good game. Both teams played well, and it could easily have gone either way. And by the way, I think most Giants fans feel the same about their team this year.
